Project Description
Summit was selected by Burke County to provide materials testing and Special Inspections for their 70,969-square-foot, 2-story county jail facility. The booking/kitchen wing is a one-story steel frame construction with load bearing exterior masonry walls, interior unprotected steel tube columns, open web steel roof joists and metal roof deck. The floor is reinforced concrete slab-on-grade. The foundation system for both the booking/kitchen wing and the housing wing is standard cast-inplace spread reinforced concrete footing. The housing wing is a two-story masonry structure with interior and exterior load bearing walls.

11-story justice center building in Durham County, NC - Services provided include Structural Engineering.

Our team provided structural engineering services for the Durham County Justice Center. The tower consists of 11 stories, including nine stories of offices and courtrooms, plus a basement and high penthouse level. An adjacent five-story high wing includes offices for the county sheriff’s department and public defender’s office. The project scope also included a six-level parking garage connected to the main building by a pedestrian bridge. The main building construction is structural steel with a lightweight concrete slab on metal deck. The exterior wall system consists of precast panels with inlayed thin brick and stone. The building is founded on a drilled caisson foundation. The parking garage is framed with precast concrete with steel framed elevator and stair towers. This project achieved LEED gold certification in 2013.

19-story justice building in Wake County, NC with 12 above grade levels and 2 levels of below grade parking - Services provided include Structural Engineering.

Our team provided structural engineering services for the Wake County Justice Center. This building, located in North Carolina’s second largest county, consists of a high-rise court tower and low-rise administrative components. The 19-story tower (12 above grade and two levels of below grade parking) has an overall building height in excess of 230 feet above grade. The project scope also included below grade connections to the adjacent Wake County Public Safety Center.

Plant sciences building on NC State University's campus - Services provided include Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections and Geotechnical Engineering.

We are the Geotechnical Engineer and Special Inspector of Record for the new Plant Sciences Building on NC State University’s Centennial Campus. This $160,200,000, five-story, 199,000-square-foot building contains research labs, office space, corporate lab/office suites, hearth/atrium space, conference space and rooftop greenhouses. Our services include subsurface drilling, field and laboratory testing of materials, and Special Inspections per Chapter 17 of the North Carolina Building Code. This building will be a state-of-the-art facility to research the challenges of agriculture, agribusiness, food production, disease resistance and climate change. Summit is proud to be a part of this huge step forward into the research of agriculture and sustainability.
