The goal of CANstruction, in addition to providing thousands of pounds of food for hunger relief assistance, is to put a spotlight on the design and construction industry giving back to the communities they help to design and build. Architects, engineers, designers and/or contractors participate either by entering competing teams from their firms or by mentoring teams of students, local businesses, clubs or civic organizations.
Our team completed a light rail design going from Durham to Raleigh out of approximately 3,293 cans. As you can see in the image of the design, the Lucky Strike tower and the Raleigh Acorn were included as the anchor points for the two cities. After judging, our team took home the award for Structural Ingenuity! It was such a great opportunity for teamwork that also gave back to the community for a great cause.
