Summit Design and Engineering is seeking a Bridge Inspector team member to work on various projects throughout NC. This team member will assist with bridge inspections and large pipe and culvert inspections in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and NCDOT guidelines. This position will work closely with other members and leaders to ensure inspections are completed accurately and efficiently as well as ensuring accurate data entry in the NCDOT Wigins bridge inspection database.

This is a full-time position.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology or similar field of study.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

We are looking for experienced individuals to supervise inspection staff, and support construction inspection (roadway and structure), materials testing and project surveying while ensuring program and regulatory compliance. This is a full-time position.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations for compliance with contract documents, standards and specifications.
  • Review plans, analysis of engineering related data and construction surveying and layout.
  • Monitor on-site construction activities.
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of inspection staff.
  • Review various reports from inspection staff and prepare summary report of construction activities.
  • Resolve daily constructability issues and trouble shoot problems to mitigate delays.

The primary function of this role is to drive, support and elevate our geotechnical design capabilities; to collaboratively work within our group to exceed client expectations through effective client communication, planning and executing project work, monitoring and controlling project budgets to deliver services while working to expand Summit's client base. Another important function of this role will be to provide mentorship and training and supplement existing QA/QC design practices.

MINIMUM SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10-20+ years of geotechnical design experience on Department of Transportation projects and/or private sector geotechnical projects. (i.e. - commercial, municipal, etc.)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
  • Proven track record with managing client satisfaction, driving team collaboration on projects and pursuits, and business development.
  • Ability to interface with clients and manage multiple projects simultaneously within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to provide proficient technical writing skills and perform design calculations, structures and foundations inventories and roadway inventories and recommendations, and review thereof.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of ten years of progressive hydrologic and hydraulic design experience.
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina or ability to obtain.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling with step backwater programs (HEC-RAS) and knowledge of FEMA requirements.
