Summit provided Geotechnical Engineering, Special Inspections and Construction Materials Testing for this facility. During Phase I of the project, 750,000 CY of cut to fill, 75,000 CY of rock removal, and 13,000 lf of storm drain installation was performed at the 100 acre construction site located in Person County, North Carolina. Phase II of the project included the construction of the 457,000 SF gypsum wallboard manufacturing facility. The steel-framed structure is built on reinforced concrete footings with reinforced slabs, steel columns, and welded metal deck plates.
For these projects, the office space was an adaptive reuse design with the interior fully altered to meet the owner’s requirements. The warehouse joined to the office space was a new “ground-up” construction. We designed both spaces based upon the specific criteria of the ABC County Board and this particular location’s staff. We renovated and re-worked the mail area, lobby area, copy area, office area, and conference room area to meet the work-flow needs of this specific location. We designed and constructed the warehouse and loading area to match ABC’s particular codes and standards for shipping and receiving. Our accessible and functional design balanced the dual functions of this site.
Our team provided architectural and engineering services for the Mid-Atlantic STIHL Warehouse expansion project in Hillsborough, NC. STIHL is a major manufacturing producer of hand-held power equipment such as chainsaws, trimmers, and blowers. The expansion project consists of adding approximately 22,600 square feet of warehouse space to the side of their existing facility, along with additional parking and a loading dock. Interior office space was relocated as well as expanding the restroom facilities and training room.
