NCDOT I-40 WIDENING

Wake County, N.C.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this project is to improve I-40 from I-440/US 64 (Exit 301) to just north of SR 1525 (Cornwallis Road) including improvements to NC 42 and SR 1010 (Cleveland Road). Once completed, this project will help reduce congestion on I-40, improve access to and from I-40, I-440 and six interchanges including US 70 Business, US 70 Bypass and NC-42. This project incorporates a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at NC 42 which will greatly alleviate traffic congestion in the area once traveling motorists get accustomed to the unique design.

Summit is the Prime Construction Engineering and Inspection firm (CEI) providing contract administration and inspection on behalf of the N.C. Department of Transportation and the N.C. Turnpike Authority for the Toll NC-540 project, also known as the Southeast Extension.
