We were the prime consultant on the Town of Hillsborough’s Riverwalk, a collection of urban greenways along the historic Eno River. To develop the initial greenway routing and bridge crossing locations, Summit and its team performed site assessments, detailed surveys, flood plain analysis, historical and archaeological assessment, and agency coordination to gain concurrence on the preferred route. Under supplemental contracts, our team provided detailed engineering design including greenway trail design, hydraulic design, CLOMR/LOMR, and structure design to develop full construction plans, prepare bid packages, and administer the public bid processes for the resulting two construction projects. During construction, we also provided daily inspection and testing services and construction management of the project to final completion. Summit’s ingenuity to utilize a top down construction method saved the town $30,000, shortened construction time by three months, and preserved mature, native trees.
Discovery Charter School is a STEM based middle school with 500 students and 35 staff members in Durham County, N.C. The new school will consist of four classroom buildings that are 10,500 square-feet each, and one 12,000 square-foot gymnasium, connected by a large network of sidewalks. This 49-acre site will also hold a soccer field, 78 parking spaces, and 15 bike racks. There is no public water or sewer in the area, so there will also be a six-acre septic system installed on the property. Summit is providing civil/site design and permitting services, surveying, and construction materials testing.
Construction Engineering and Inspection and Construction Materials Testing
Summit represented the Village of Clemmons on a 3,600-linear foot greenway trail around scenic Village Point Lake. This greenway trail includes a 120-foot pedestrian bridge, two boardwalks and a 180-foot segmental retaining wall. Summit handled project administration, construction engineering and inspection, materials sampling and testing, and ensuring compliance with current NCDOT/FHWA standards and specifications. Summit provided a full-time inspector on-site to maintain all required NCDOT documentation and to ensure environmental permit compliance for all activities affecting erosion and sedimentation.
