We provided both contract administration and inspection services on this municipal project. The original five-span Mickley Avenue bridge had significantly deteriorated after 95 years of use. The bridge also spanned over the Norfolk Southern Railroad which had future railroad track additions planned. Between these two factors, the bridge qualified for an upgrade.
The original bridge was replaced with a 150-foot, single-span structure. We monitored all construction operations by providing daily field reports, materials received reports and pay estimates, as well as sampling and testing of all materials in accordance with NCDOT requirements. Our contract administration duties included but were not limited to; bid tabulations, facilitating project meetings, coordinating submittal distribution, monitoring DBE participation, change orders and pay application approval and processing.
This $9 Million project involved full rehabilitation of 12 bridges on Interstate 40 as they cross the historic Biltmore Estate. It required managed coordination between NCDOT and the private owners of Biltmore Estate, as well as adherence to historic registry guidelines.
