Project Description
Summit is the Geotechnical Engineer and Special Inspector of Record for the new Plant Sciences Building on NC State University’s Centennial Campus. This $160,200,000, five-story, 199,000-square-foot building contains research labs, office space, corporate lab/office suites, hearth/atrium space, conference space and rooftop greenhouses. Our services include subsurface drilling, field and laboratory testing of materials, and Special Inspections per Chapter 17 of the North Carolina Building Code. This building will be a state-of-the-art facility to research the challenges of agriculture, agribusiness, food production, disease resistance and climate change. Summit is proud to be a part of this huge step forward into the research of agriculture and sustainability.

Our team was selected by Burke County to provide materials testing and Special Inspections for their 70,969-square-foot, 2-story county jail facility. The booking/kitchen wing is a one-story steel frame construction with load bearing exterior masonry walls, interior unprotected steel tube columns, open web steel roof joists and metal roof deck. The floor is reinforced concrete slab-on-grade. The foundation system for both the booking/kitchen wing and the housing wing is standard cast-inplace spread reinforced concrete footing. The housing wing is a two-story masonry structure with interior and exterior load bearing walls.

Our team provided civil engineering services for the new Oxford Preparatory School Facility in Granville County, N.C. The school originally began with 68 students and has operated using modular buildings that have expanded each year with increased enrollment. Due to the increase, the construction of a 38,000-square foot building was necessary. It contains 20 classrooms that include three science labs, music room, and gymnasium with a 440-person seating capacity. Summit provided special use permitting, construction drawings, erosion control permitting, off-site sanitary sewer outfall and off-site roadway improvements. Summit also provided geotechnical, CMT and surveying services for this project.

Our team provided Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections services to Greystar for a new 516,600 square foot luxury condo and apartment complex in Chapel Hill, NC. Services included: Earthwork and Grading, Building and Parking Garage Foundations, Cast-in-Place Concrete Inspections and Testing, Structural Masonry Inspections and Testing, Prestressed and Post Tension Concrete Inspection, Precast Concrete Placement Inspection, Steel and Wood Framing, Asphalt Pavement testing and Associated laboratory testing.
